The #1 best thing you can do when selling your home

There is one thing that you can do that will give you the greatest return when selling your home. Is it a kitchen remodel? Nope. Finish the basement? Negative. Add an addition? Uh uh. Not only is this one thing the absolute best thing you can do – it’s probably the cheapest! The answer: Clean. Your. House. Clean everything. Deep clean everything. When a buyer walks into a house and sees something dirty they automatically assume that it needs to be replaced. Why? Because if a seller could have cleaned it, they would have, right? Buyers expect that this is the best shape that the house could possibly ever be in.

You would be so surprised at how many dirty homes I see with buyers and how that quickly affects their perception of the home’s value. Most buyers would prefer a neat and tidy dated bathroom over a dirty modern one.

A lot of sellers miss a few places before they put their homes up for sale. Don’t forget to clean the following:

  • Baseboards
  • Between the washer and dryer in the laundry room
  • Walls
  • HVAC vents
  • Light fixtures
  • Kitchen and bathroom cabinets
  • Bathroom fans
  • Light switches
  • Shower head and shower doors
  • Remove cobwebs from corners
  • Dishwasher
  • Kitchen sink
  • Ceiling fans
  • Window and door tracks

Need some life hacks to get it all done? Check out these cleaning tips to get your house in top shape.
